Exterior Color: Redrock Pearl, Interior Color: Saddle
Acura introduced its MDX as a 2001 model, and the midsize sport utility vehicle from Hondas luxury division began to tally impressive sales totals. The MDXs engine output has risen to 265 hp for 2004. Other enhancements include a redesigned front fascia, protector-type headlights, an integrated chin spoiler, dual exhaust, a rear wing spoiler and acoustic windshield glass. Styled in California, the MDX features sloping rear roof pillars like those on the RX 330 and other newcomers. According to Acura, its SUV strikes a balance between muscularity and elegance, starting with a sharply chiseled front fascia and a wide stance. Bold creases highlight the hood and bodysides. Seven people occupy three rows of seats in the MDX, which contains two front buckets, a three-place split middle bench and a two-place split rear seat. The center and rear seats fold flat into the floor to create additional cargo space. Cargo volume measures 81.5 cubic feet when the second- and third-row seats are folded flat. Standard features include leather upholstery, remote keyless entry, a power moonroof and a seven-speaker Acura cassette/CD stereo system.

Exterior Color: Dolphin Gray Metallic, Interior Color: Platinum
Audi's A4 series has a lot to offer, but the highlight is its available multitronic CVT. Operating so subtly that the driver is hardly aware of its presence, the CVT does everything an automatic transmission promises but without any gear changes. Passing response is excellent, and most drivers should quickly get used to the lack of actual shifting. With its gearshift flicking easily between ratios and mating to clutch action, a manual-shift A4 is also enjoyable, but the lever's position may not please everyone. The turbocharged four-cylinder responds eagerly. Handling prowess is the strong point. The A4 joyfully tackles twisting roads, taking every turn in stride. Ride comfort is satisfying due to a nicely absorbent suspension, but passengers can be jostled a bit when the pavement gets harsh. The A4 is snug inside, but the seats are outstanding.

2003 Audi A6 3.0L

2003 Audi A6 3.0L
Stock # P2880, Mileage: 82266, VIN # WAULT64B53N031252
Price: $11,315
Exterior Color: Ming Blue Pearl, Interior Color: Beige
All Audi A6 models share crisp and accurate steering and a perfect balance between smooth ride quality and sharp handling.Even the RS 6, with its high-performance suspension, rides smoothly with no trace of harshness.A6 is peaceful at highway cruise, with only the slightest ruffle of wind noise around the A-pillars, noticeable only because the rest of the car is so quiet.A6 is extremely stable at high speeds. The steering is very precise, yet smooth, not darty. The suspension on the A6 3.0 is on the soft side of sporty, providing the comfort that most buyers want, while still maintaining the driving control one would expect from a German car.Audi's complex front suspension yields absolute control in wet conditions, and that's with front-wheel drive and traction control. It's even better with Quattro. In dry conditions, the front-drive Audi A6 has none of the torque steer common with high-powered front-wheel-drive automobiles. The new 3.0-liter V6 gives the base A6 energetic performance in just about any driving situation. The standard five-speed Tiptronic automatic that comes on most A6 models is smooth and responsive. We don't miss having a manual.RS 6 features paddle shifters on the steering wheel that are handy for quick downshifts.Leaving the shifter in the auto position allows a quick downshift for making a pass, which automatically upshifts. Audi A6 is a brilliant luxury sports sedan. It comes with a beautifully detailed interior that's just as comfortable for long trips as it is for the morning stop-and-go.Steering, handling, braking are all excellent. They are balanced well with a smooth, firm ride quality.A6 3.0 is the softest, RS 6 is the firmest, but none of them is harsh.Acceleration performance depends on the model, ranging from quick, to very quick to blistering.

2006 BMW 3 Series 325i

2006 BMW 3 Series 325i
Stock # P2909, Mileage: 63670, VIN # WBAVB13566PT00636
Price: $19,120
Exterior Color: Titanium Silver Metallic, Interior Color: Tan
The prior-generation 325 sedan was altogether enjoyable in the driver-oriented sense, but the handling attributes of the fifth generation are stronger yet. Masterful steering response is about as precise as you'll find in any car on the market. On dry pavement, sure-footed behavior is the rule. Ride quality is another story, which will please enthusiasts but possibly dismay less-avid 3 Series prospects. Every bump is noticed, even with the regular suspension; however, the overall experience isn't too troubling because the suspension is well behaved. Engine response is assertive and energetic. When equipped with an automatic transmission, the 325 is impressively swift from a standstill and yields a satisfying snarl, though at higher velocities it's occasionally short on power. On a racetrack, even a manual-shift 325 doesn't recover as well after curves as its more powerful 330 sibling. The differences between the two models on regular roads aren't readily noticed. Familiar-looking BMW gauges are large and easy to read. The seats are supportive and have helpful bolstering and comfortable cushions. Under the Hood BMW's 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder produces 215 hp at 6,250 rpm and 185 pounds-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm in the 325 sedan. The engine incorporates Valvetronic variable valve lift. A new six-speed-manual gearbox is standard, and a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with Normal, Sport and Manual modes is optional.

Overall: **** Performance: Excellent. The 335i's engine is quick and powerful. It feels precise. Its ride is smooth but sporty. Exterior: Excellent. Very distinctive design and well proportioned vehicle. Worthy of the self-proclaimed moniker, "The Ultimate Tanning Machine." Interior: Excellent: Luxurious and comfortable. Pros: An excellent all-around vehicle. The more powerful turbo-charged engine matches the less expensive engine's gas mileage. Launched as an early 2003 model, the CTS was built on a new rear-wheel-drive platform and featured square-edge styling. Suspension revisions and interior changes for 2004 were intended to soften the ride and reduce noise. The CTS is exceptionally stable on the road and easy to drive around town. Steering response is on the sporty side. The driver's seat is especially comfortable and adequately supportive. Headroom, elbowroom and legroom are abundant up front.
2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LT w/1LT
Exterior Color: Black, Interior Color: Black
Chevy's redesigned 2007 Avalanche retains its forebear's midgate magic, but the entire package has been overhauled as part of GM's full-size truck platform revamp everything from the Chevrolet Suburban SUV to the GMC Sierra pickup was upgraded for 2007. The 5.3-liter V-8 in my four-wheel-drive Avalanche LTZ makes 310 horsepower and 335 pounds-feet of torque. Two-wheel-drive models carry a different version of the engine with slightly higher output, while a 6.0-liter V-8 is optional across the board. The previous Avalanche offered a heavy-duty model with an 8.1-liter V-8, but it's been dropped because of low demand. Maximum towing capacity for both the 5.3-liter V-8 and 6.0-liter V-8 is 8,000 pounds on two-wheel-drive Avalanches. With four-wheel drive and the smaller engine, capacity drops slightly to 7,800 pounds. Its combination of refinement, styling and durability make the Avalanche a winner. It sets new standards for interior quality, and now its rivals have some catch-up work to do. Despite all that, neither the Avalanche nor its full-size siblings are likely to sell as well as they did several years ago, as rising fuel prices have produced a more gas-conscious buyer. GM knows that all too well, and it isn't selling false expectations this time around. To me, these trucks are not so much gas-guzzling giants as a sign of the quality and refinement to come for all GM vehicles. Provided it stays on this tack, Detroit's top automaker should do just fine.

All in all, the Chevy HHR is a pretty slick ride that lends itself to personalizing and customization regardless of the configuration chosen. It is a nostalgic hauler for people who want something different, and who appreciate the classic looks of the 1949 Chevy Suburban. It's available with three different Ecotec engines, depending upon the model. It's not designed for off-road driving or even serious winter weather, however. Its 55.6 cubic feet of cargo space doesn't lead the class, but the fact that the seats may be folded flat increases the utility. In the end, it's all about styling preferences.Obviously, the HHR Panel is a lot roomier with its lack of rear seats.

Exterior Color: Silverstone Metallic, Interior Color: Titanium
Striking an excellent balance between handling and ride, the 2008 Chevy Malibu's chassis provides confident cornering along with a smooth ride on broken pavement. Steering is precise, if a bit numb on-center, and body roll is well-controlled, even in quick maneuvers. Braking distances are good, though under heavy braking the body moves around noticeably. Although you can hear the power steering whine at low speeds, the cabin is impressively hushed at highway speeds and seat comfort and support is superb, making the Malibu ideal for long trips. With a wide range of adjustment, the driver seat provides a good driving position, but awkwardly placed pedals and a large-diameter steering wheel can be an annoyance for some drivers. The four-cylinder engine should prove sufficient for most buyers, though obviously the V6 provides considerably more gusto. There's plenty of power available, though getting the six-speed automatic to downshift (as for a quick freeway passing maneuver) requires a deliberate foot to the throttle. Sadly, in such situations, the LTZ's paddle shifters can only be used after the gearlever has been put into "M" -- other such systems allow for an automatic override when a paddle is pressed.

If the 300 Touring sedan ranks as excellent, then the 300C warrants a superior rating. Though supremely quiet most of the time, the Hemi V-8 delivers a satisfying note when accelerating hard. Steering and stability feel even more certain and secure in the 300C, which takes winding mountain roads confidently. Engine response is virtually immediate, and passing/merging reactions are seriously energetic. Better yet, the five-speed-automatic transmission is near-perfect. Snow and ice performance with the Electronic Stability Program is amazing. Even if you tromp the gas on a snow-packed curve, the system kicks in immediately to keep the car on course. On the downside, you might feel the system has taken over too assertively. Seats are reasonably supportive and invitingly comfortable, though a bit on the hard side. Long seat bottoms are pleasing, though they do tilt forward a bit. Abundant glass area helps visibility, as do the large mirrors. Backseat space is abundant, promising plenty of legroom and acceptable headroom.

Performance A good engine, great handling, outstanding styling and surprising quality make the 300M a strong entry against European and Japanese luxury sedans. The optional handling group makes the 300M more athletic but also makes the ride noticeably stiffer, so test drive it over bumpy pavement before you buy. Interior Leather upholstery and heated front bucket seats are standard on the five-passenger 300M. The rear seat has adequate space for taller folks, though there is less legroom than in the LHS or Concorde. A split rear seatback folds to expand the 16.8-cubic-foot trunk, which has a smaller opening and less space than the other models. The only major interior option is an 11-speaker, 360-watt Infinity sound system that includes a new four-disc, in-dash CD changer. Under the Hood The 253-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine delivers potent performance, with a lusty growl at full throttle and a refined hum when cruising. The smooth-shifting four-speed automatic comes with the Autostick feature, which allows manual gear changes by tipping the shift lever left or right.

Solidity and stability have always been Pacifica hallmarks. The 3.5-liter engine is no slouch it makes for energetic pickup in Chrysler's 300 sedan but teamed with a four-speed automatic in a vehicle that tips the scales in SUV territory, it came up short in the passing lane. Despite being rated just 5 hp and 15 pounds-feet of torque over the old, 2006, engine, the 4.0-liter V-6 seems noticeably stronger. Ample low-end torque makes for confident passing, and the six-speed automatic kicks down several gears without undue hesitation. The 3.8-liter V-6 in the LX is adequate.Steering feels more numb in the LX, while the Pacifica Touring and Limited have a tighter feel. In all trim levels, there's plenty of body roll through the corners, and the chassis comes easily undone over rough pavement. Long highway stretches are where the Pacifica shines, with minivan-like isolation from the outside world. Seats have a substantial feel, and chunky side bolsters lend more support than those in some competing models. Dashboard controls remain miniscule and difficult to decipher, something Chrysler has ironed out in most of its other vehicles. The optional navigation system display is positioned within the instrument panel a position that discourages assistance from passengers. With the rear seats up, there's a considerable blind spot. The optional rearview camera is a godsend for frequent parallel-parkers.

Dodge promotes the Durango's "broad-shouldered presence," starting with a familiar crosshair grille. The SUV features short front and rear overhangs, a dramatically sloped windshield and what Dodge calls "powerful" wheel arches. Durangos can hold up to eight occupants when equipped with three rows of seats. A five-person configuration is also offered. Newly optional for 2007 are bucket seats for the second row. Cargo volume behind the third row is 19 cubic feet; that space grows to 102.4 cubic feet when both rear seats are folded down. A four-speed automatic transmission teams with the V-6, but V-8 models drive a five-speed automatic. Durangos come with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Reversible slush mats are included in the Adventurer model, which has a rubberized, washable cargo liner. Response from the Hemi V-8 is less vigorous than expected. The Ram 1500 is a light-duty truck, but it seems big in every way including its reaction to bumps and holes in the road. Although the suspension regains control fairly quickly, quite a bit of jolting occurs in city driving. The ride improves on the highway. The Ram 1500 is easy to drive and steer, and it responds predictably to driver input. A four-wheel-drive version maneuvers capably and takes curves passably well at modest speeds. Three adults fit adequately in a regular cab when the immense center armrest/storage box is raised. Under the Hood The standard 3.7-liter V-6 produces 215 hp. Rams can be equipped with an available 235-hp, 4.7-liter Magnum V-8 or a 345-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. With the 4.7- or 5.7-liter engine, the automatic is a five-speed unit. There's no such thing as a "standard" Ferrari, but the 360 Modena 360 Spider convertible come the closest to that designation. Built with extensive use of aluminum, the twin 360 models are powered by a rear-mounted V-8 engine. Ferrari claims the Spider has better chassis rigidity than any other convertible on the market. Exterior Classic Ferrari styling by Pininfarina, one of the top Italian design firms of all time, helps the informed exotic sports car observer spot a 360 Modena from a distance. Ferrari says the design was inspired by such classics as the Ferrari 250LM and Dino. Even though the lushly rounded lines of a 360 Modena coupe or 360 Spider draw passers-by toward the car, the transparent glass hatch over the engine is what's likely to keep them there, staring in amazement. Interior The two bucket seats are available in 12 shades of leather. Ferrari customers can even select the color of the upholstery's stitching, if they wish. Luggage goes into the front of the car, and the company claims that the space behind the seats is big enough to hold a golf bag. Ferrari seats are low, and the driver gets ample bolstering. Under the Hood Mounted behind the seats and ahead of the rear axle, the 3.6-liter V-8 engine features five valves per cylinder and develops 400 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 276 pounds-feet of torque at 4,750 rpm. Ferrari claims the 360 Modena can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and pass the 180-mph mark.

European heritage reveals itself mainly in the Focus crisp cornering ability and in its roomy, upright, ergonomically oriented interior. The hatchback models look sharper than the sedans and are practical for carrying cargo. The ZX3 is frisky on the road with its manual shift, and it accelerates eagerly from a standstill. It is quite spirited for passing and merging. The hatchback is highly maneuverable and fun to drive. The smooth clutch action and a gearbox that works fairly easily contribute to driving enjoyment. The Focus ride comfort is firm but above par, and the suspension deals competently with urban bumps. Long side glass helps visibility in the hatchback, despite the presence of thick pillars. Front-seat headroom is huge. The ZTS sedan with an automatic transmission comes across as uninspiring compared to the ZX3 hatchback. All Focus models represent good value when compared to such rivals as the Civic and the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta.

Exterior Color: Oxford White, Interior Color: Medium Parchment
The Ford F-250 Super Duty was last redesigned for the 2008 model year. Compared to earlier F-250s, it has revised styling, a stronger frame, better handling dynamics, a nicer interior and an improved turbodiesel engine. Engine choices included the standard 5.4-liter V8 as well as the optional 6.8-liter V10 and 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8. A five-speed manual was standard, with a four-speed automatic optional. For 2003, the FX4 off-road package debuted, as did (for crew cabs) an optional power moonroof and the King Ranch edition. A smaller, yet more powerful, 6.0-liter Power Stroke replacing the 7.3-liter version debuted that year as well. (Buyers should be aware, however, that the 6.0-liter diesel engine has a poor reputation for reliability.) For 2005, the big news was a new five-speed automatic transmission, an upgraded front suspension, a new grille and headlight design and increased towing and hauling capacities. The next few years saw just minor changes to feature and package availability.

The new Accord's ride quality is an improvement over the outgoing model because it offers softer tuning that should appeal to more family-sedan buyers while still delivering the sporty driving feel the car is known for. Honda has found the sweet spot here, with a driving experience that rivals the sporty characteristics of the Nissan Altima, without the Altima's stiff ride on rough surfaces. It also equals the Toyota Camry's ride smoothness without its floaty, unsure responses on winding roads. While the V-6 makes smooth power, it doesn't feel as strong as its 268 horsepower rating would suggest. Acceleration in the city and on the highway is acceptable, but you're left wondering where the last 40 horses are hiding; it doesn't blow you away with its power the way the Toyota Avalon's V-6 can. The five-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and will quickly kick down a gear or two if necessary. Honda's integration of VCM is exceptional; it's nearly impossible to tell when the car is running on three, four or six cylinders.

Honda's CR-V is quiet, smooth, refined and classy. This SUV is neatly stable, stays easily on course, maneuvers crisply and yields an enjoyable driving experience. The ride isn't wholly gentle, but it's smooth most of the time. Occupants feel the bumps, but few are annoying. Though the CR-V is pleasantly peppy when equipped with a manual gearbox, it isn't quite as vigorous with an automatic transmission on steep upgrades. Engine blare at full throttle may be noticeable. The manual gearbox shifts easily and teams with a well-behaved clutch. Under the Hood The CR-V's 2.4-liter four-cylinder develops 156 hp and 156 pounds-feet of torque. Those figures are down slightly from 2005 because of new SAE testing standards, though actual performance is the same. The EX comes standard with a five-speed-manual transmission; a five-speed automatic is available. All other models come only with the automatic. Front- and all-wheel-drive models are available. Safety All-disc antilock brakes, Vehicle Stability Assist, and side-impact and side curtain-type airbags are standard. A bumper beam was designed to match the height of passenger-car bumpers. The CR-V earned five-star ratings in government crash tests for both frontal and side impacts. Firm but well-cushioned seats have snug side bolstering. Protruding from below the dashboard, the automatic-transmission lever operates as easily as a column shifter.

It's an eager-performing, competent-handling sedan that's able to carry on the company's illustrious heritage. On wet, twisty pavement, the X-Type demonstrates its handling skills at every curve. Responding quickly and surely to steering inputs, the sedan is confident and surefooted at all speeds. Even on moderately imperfect surfaces, the ride is sheer pleasure. Rougher patches can produce some jostling, but the car corrects itself crisply without excessive rebounding. Acceleration with the 3.0-liter V-6 is vigorous, supremely confident and helped by crisp automatic-transmission operation. Exceptionally quiet, the X-Type exhibits evidence of solid, careful construction. The seats are comfortable and supportive. Five people fit in the cockpit-style interior, which features Connolly leather and traditional wood veneer or carbon-fiber trim, depending on the model. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control and steering-wheel controls for the stereo. Jaguar's VDP sedan includes 320-watt Alpine premium sound, Reverse Park Control, a wood and leather steering wheel, and rain-sensing wipers. A navigation system is available.

Available all-wheel drive, revised engine choices, and new sport models make 2003 news for Mercedes' least-expensive line. The C-Class offers sedan, wagon, and hatchback-coupe body styles. C230 models come as coupes or the new Sport Sedan. They use a supercharged 4 cyl, a 189-hp 1.8 liter in place of last year's 192-hp 2.3. The C240 has a 168-hp V6 and comes as a sedan or wagon. C320 models have a 215-hp V6 and come in all three body styles after adding coupe and Sport Sedan versions for '03. The high-performance C32 AMG sedan has a supercharged 349-hp V6, sport suspension, and 5-speed automatic transmission. On other C-Class models, a 6-speed manual transmission is standard and a 5-speed automatic is optional. Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive is newly available for any automatic-transmission C-class sedan or wagon, except the C32. Sport versions come with sport-tuned suspension, body cladding, and aluminum interior trim. Sports and the C32 have 17-inch wheels, other models use 16s. Every C-Class has ABS, antiskid/traction control, front/rear side airbags, head-protecting curtain side airbags, and Mercedes' BabySmart child-seat recognition system. A unique coupe option is the large Panorama sunroof that teams with a fixed-glass panel over the rear seat; each has a power sunshade. Mercedes' TeleAid assistance system is standard on the C32, available for other models. A navigation system also is available, and high- and low-beam xenon headlamps are a new linewide option replacing low beams only.

For 2005, Luxury editions of Mercedes-Benz's compact C-Class get new styling that follows the lead of the 2004 C-Class sport sedan. For 2005, C-Class models have redesigned clear headlamps and revised taillamps. By using wider rear wheels and tires, the track width has increased. Luxury models get 16-inch wheels, while Sport sedans use 17-inch wheels. Bi-xenon headlamps are available on all models. A moonroof is available as part of an option group. Style plays into the equation of the small Benz's appeal as well, with the C-Class drawing inspiration from bigger Benzes. The front and rear fascias are instantly recognizable as part of the Mercedes family. In the recent past, the cabin of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class wasn't up to the car's traditional standards in terms of quality, but Mercedes has largely rectified the situation on the latest generation of the car. Invariably, the C-Class is cross-shopped with its German rivals, the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. While the 3 Series is traditionally the most sporting of the trio and the A4 the more luxury-themed, the Benz offers a little of both personalities, along with superior technology features and more prestige for those concerned about such things.

he 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans have been improved across the board, thanks to a new family of V6 engines. The least powerful of the new C-Class engines, the 2.5-liter V6 in the C230 Sport sedan, rated at 201 horsepower, offers more power than the supercharged four-cylinder engine it replaces. As important, it is far smoother at all speeds and generally less course in feel, sound or the amount of vibration it generates. The 228-hp 3.0-liter V6 in the C280 Luxury sedan is much more powerful and satisfying than the anemic 2.6-liter V6 in the 2005 C240 (previously the best selling C-Class). The Mercedes-Benz C-Class delivers Mercedes engineering, design and safety features starting at the price of loaded mass-market, midsize sedans. The good things behind the Mercedes brand get no more accessible than they are in the C-Class. For 2006, a new line of variable-valve-timing V6 engines improves the C-Class across to board. The C230 Sport sedan with six-speed manual transmission may be the most fun of all. The new seven-speed automatic in the C280 and C350 luxury sedans is ultra responsive. The C350 may represent the best of the line, but can easily surpass $40,000 and diminish some of the appeal in the C-Class's accessibility. The C55 AMG is strictly for the serious enthusiast.

From outside, there seems to be no change to Mercedes-Benz's mid-size, mid-level six-cylinder E Class sedan for 2006. Looking closer, the name has changed, from E320 to E350. That seemingly small change makes a major difference. Important changes to the engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission add power and refinement to a car that has long been a benchmark in the mid-luxury class, with no decrease in fuel economy. With 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, the new E350 bests last year's E320 by 47 horses and 26 lb-ft. And it compares favorably with the previous generation E420 V8's 275 hp and 295 lb-ft. I've just finished an impressive week with a new E350. As great as the drivetrain may be, there is even more to recommend the car. It's very well balanced, with a chassis that provides luxury levels of ride comfort and quiet... and near sport levels of handling ability on the road. There is a long list of option packages and standalone options for personalization, but my test car was very simply-equipped with only pewter metallic paint, leather upholstery, the sunroof/sunshade package, and the 6-disc CD changer. Even at that, it had first-class interior comfort and very enjoyable driving characteristics. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has long been the benchmark mid-size, mid-level luxury sedan, and that won't change soon.

On the road, the 2009 Mitsubishi Galant is one of the more fun-to-drive family sedans. The Ralliart's V6 delivers plenty of power for passing and merging on the highway. Pushed around curves, the Galant maintains a flat, predictable stance and feels smaller than it is. A surprising amount of road feel is communicated through the driver seat and the steering. Although the steering is a little vague on-center, it is quick and responsive. None of this entertainment comes at the expense of ride quality, which is smooth, forgiving and ideal for weekday commutes. Ideal balance between ride quality and handling, strong V6 in Ralliart trim, comfortable cabin, superb Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Exterior Color: Mystic Emerald Metallic, Interior Color: Blond
Simply put, the Altima delivers an appealing road experience. It steers with a rather light touch, is stable on the road and exhibits minimal body lean. Ride comfort is satisfying, and the fully independent suspension deals adeptly with pavement bumps and holes. Strong performance from the V-6 matches excellent response from the automatic transmission, which downshifts promptly and eagerly. Acceleration is even more energetic in models equipped with the five-speed-manual gearbox, but the unit is a bit on the clunky side. A four-cylinder automatic transmission-equipped Altima turns in credible performance, so many buyers won't require the V-6. The seats feel comfortable and pleasantly supportive, and the sedan comes across as tightly constructed. Interior Seating for five people includes separate front seats and a three-place, 60/40-split folding rear bench. The instrument panel is designed to "fall away" from occupants, providing more legroom. To improve visibility, the front-seat hip point is relatively high. Trunk volume totals 15.6 cubic feet, and a cargo net is standard. Leather seating is optional. Under the Hood The 2.5-liter four-cylinder produces 175 hp (170 hp in California). A 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 250 hp (260 hp in the SE-R) is available.

Shoppers searching for solid construction in the full-size pickup category need not look any further than the Titan. It delivers confident handling, both on- and off-road. After some brief initial sluggishness, the Titan accelerates from a standstill with authority. Response is strong at midrange speeds. Occupants may feel quite a bit of body motion on rougher surfaces and when the bed is empty, but a loaded Titan rides quite nicely. It provides a secure ride with only a touch of body roll as the rather stiff suspension absorbs road imperfections. Titans emit a distinctive exhaust note that's not trucklike. Auxiliary tilt-down mirrors enhance rearward visibility. The seats provide good back support and feature especially long bottoms and soft cushions. Even though the Grand Prix has many appealing features, it doesn't quite compare to European and most Asian models in solidity. The Grand Prix, especially with supercharged power, performs energetically. Promising strong passing power, it accelerates from a standstill with vigor, but there's little evidence of supercharger action. Pontiac's paddle shifters work well but may suffer a little delay. The Grand Prix's suspension eases over most road flaws, but it gives the impression of avoiding rather than absorbing them. Handling skills are a bonus with the upper models without major loss in ride comfort. Headroom is ample in each seating position, but the optional power sunroof steals some space. A 200-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 is standard in the base sedan. The GT sedan is equipped with a supercharged version that develops 260 hp. Both Cayenne models are refined, civilized and muscular, but their performance personalities differ as much as their prices. Acceleration from a standstill is downright startling in the Cayenne Turbo. Passing and merging response is less consistent sometimes ferociously fast, but occasionally hesitant at lower speeds. Tiptronic shifts are barely noticeable, especially in the upper gears. In Sport mode, you can feel a bit of motion transmitted from the road but never a hint of less-than-perfect control. The Cayennes handling could hardly be better. Reactions are quick, certain and confident. The seats are firmly excellent, with keep-you-in-place bolstering and long bottoms for superior thigh support. Performance is strong in the Cayenne S, but its definitely not in the same league as the Turbo. The Cayenne S has a similar hesitation from the transmission when cornering, but its about as surefooted and confident as its more costly brother. The 9-5 is Saab's top-of-the-line car, and it competes with cars such as the Acura TL, Volvo S60 and Lincoln MKZ. It's available as both a sedan and wagon, which Saab calls a SportCombi. All 9-5s are front-wheel drive and are powered by a 260-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. The 9-5 was extensively redesigned for 2006 and receives only minor changes for 2008. The 9-5 can seat up to five people. In both the sedan and SportCombi, upright chairlike seating permits comfortable posture, and leather-upholstered seats are standard. The audio system includes MP3-play capability, XM Satellite Radio and an in-dash six-CD changer. Satellite radio and the CD changer are not available if you opt for the optional DVD navigation system. The front-wheel-drive 9-5's turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder generates 260 hp and 258 pounds-feet of torque.

The 2007 Saturn Aura midsize sedan, a sister of the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6, takes the place vacated by the L-Series, last sold as a 2005 model. Upscale touches include LED taillights and body-colored door handles as standard equipment on the Aura XE. The XR trim level has chrome door handles, front fog lights and twin tailpipes, and it replaces the XE's 17-inch steel wheels with 18-inch, 14-spoke aluminum rims. A driver's seat with a power height adjustment is standard. An eight-way power seat is optional on the XE and standard on the XR, as are heated front seats. There's also an optional power passenger seat. Like the models that share this platform, the XR includes remote engine start. An option that's familiar from the G6, the panoramic moonroof uses several glass sections rather than one piece. When the moonroof is opened, these planks sit stacked above the roof.

Only a glance is necessary to see that the Sequoia is a really big SUV. Despite its abundant dimensions, the Sequoia doesnt feel as immense as some of its rivals once youve managed to get inside. In fact, it drives beautifully and yields an excellent highway ride. You feel the bumps, but the suspension absorbs the brunt of the imperfections. The Sequoia takes curves better than expected, but its hard to resist the tendency to restrain ones foot on the gas pedal. Little correction is needed on straightaways, and theres no tendency to wander. Vigorous acceleration from the Sequoias V-8 engine is matched by an easy-action automatic transmission and column-mounted gearshift. The engine is quiet, and no other sounds are bothersome. Occupants have plenty of room, and the Sequoia offers abundant storage possibilities. The Sequoia seats eight people on two front buckets and two three-place bench seats. Toyota claims that the Sequoias interior dimensions exceed the Tahoes.

2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner

2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner
Stock # P2910, Mileage: 59911, VIN # 3TMJU62N36M018857
Price: $17,750
Exterior Color: Silver Streak Mica, Interior Color: Graphite
The Toyota Tacoma is a midsize pickup truck available in a variety of body styles and trim levels. There is almost certainly a version that suits your needs, but some time will likely be required to sort through them all. Three cab styles -- regular, extended cab (Toyota calls it an Access Cab) and crew cab (Double Cab) -- are offered on the Tacoma, as well as cargo beds in short and long lengths. With a body style selected, one must choose a trim. In addition to the base version, there are the PreRunner and X-Runner. The PreRunner provides the look and suspension of the four-wheel-drive trucks sans the actual four-wheel-drive running gear, while the X-Runner features modifications that enhance on-street performance without giving up much utility. Of course, there's also a true off-road package for 4WD trucks aimed at buyers who plan to do serious off-highway work with their Tacomas. For power, the Tacoma comes with either a 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine or a 4.0-liter V6. Owners planning on frequent hauling or towing will certainly want to choose the V6. Available transmissions for the four-cylinder are either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. V6 buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic. In Toyota Tacoma reviews, our editors have found the truck's roomy interior, powerful V6 option and excellent off-road capability to be its best attributes. Additionally, the Double Cab version is only the compact/midsize crew cab on the market available in both short- and long-bed configurations. Frequently noted dislikes in our consumer reviews include an occasionally rough ride quality, poor seat comfort and the inability to order leather seating as an option.

			Stock # P2903, Mileage: 12229, VIN # 5TFRV54168X054513
Exterior Color: Super White, Interior Color: Graphite
With a wider variety of possible configurations, it's now much easier to equip a Tundra for use as both a work vehicle and family hauler. The medium-size Double Cab -- which is now the extended-cab version of the Tundra -- is as large as many competitors' crew cabs, while the massive Tundra CrewMax has the roomiest four-door cab in the full-size segment. Three engines are available, allowing the second-gen Toyota Tundra to suit almost any need. Standard on the Regular Cab and shorter-bed Double Cab is a 4.0-liter V6 rated at 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque; optional on these models and standard on all other Tundras is a 4.7-liter V8 putting out 271 horses and 313 lb-ft of torque. Optional for all Tundras is a 5.7-liter V8 cranking out 381 extremely eager hp and 401 lb-ft of stump-pulling torque. The V6 and smaller V8 come paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the larger V8 is hooked to a six-speed automatic. All versions are offered with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. We find the reworked Toyota Tundra to be a remarkable truck, now excelling in all the areas in which its predecessor fell short. For full-size truck buyers with serious towing and hauling requirements, it's a must-drive, as the new big V8 and six-speed automatic combo give it a decided advantage when there's a trailer hitched up. The Tundra also boasts generous interior room, lots of useful features and very good road manners. Its only real downsides are slightly hard-to-reach dashboard controls, ho-hum interior plastics and pricing that's potentially a little more than the competition's. Still, this is one impressive half-ton truck, and overall we think it's worth strong consideration for nearly all full-size shoppers.

The CC is an all-new vehicle from Volkswagen for 2009. The CC is a Passat wrapped in a dramatic and stylish four-door body with flowing lines and a bold face. Power comes from either a 200-hp 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, or a 280-hp 3.6-liter narrow-angle V6 (VR6). Both engines are available with front-wheel drive, while the VR6 can also be equipped with all-wheel drive.
2007 Volkswagen GTI 2.0T
Stock # P2912, Mileage: 35683, VIN # WVWFV71KX7W020431
Exterior Color: Black Magic, Interior Color: Interlagos Charcoal
An automatic-transmission GTI delivers impressive performance. Having so much power at hand raises the fun quotient, and this hatchback's confident handling makes it even more appealing. Be a little wary of the 17-inch tires in models with the sport suspension, though. Even though the 1.8T's ride doesn't qualify as punishing, occupants do get tossed around more when the pavement gets rough. The ride remains pleasant on smooth surfaces, but small road imperfections can produce a jolt. Interior The upright styling of the GTI allows occupants to sit more vertically than in most small cars. Space is adequate for four adults, though seating for five is provided. Height-adjustable rear head restraints are standard. The area behind the rear seat holds 18 cubic feet of cargo, and the 60/40-split rear seatbacks fold to provide additional cargo space. Folding the seats creates 41.8 cubic feet of cargo room. The instruments are backlit in a vibrant blue hue at night, and the driver faces a sporty three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Volkswagen's Electronic Stabilization Program and heated front seats come standard. Under the Hood The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 200 hp at 5,500 rpm and 207 pounds-feet of torque at 1,800 rpm. A six-speed manual gearbox is now standard, while a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic operation for manually selected gear changes is optional.

In ordinary driving, the Jetta delivers vigorous throttle response, and the automatic transmission operates effortlessly. Passing response is markedly less energetic on upgrades at higher elevations. Significant hesitation before the transmission downshifts may occur when stepping on the gas. The Jetta feels particularly substantial, if a little on the heavy side. The suspension is definitely firm, but it doesn't impair the ride on smooth highways. Steering feel is excellent, and the Jetta stays neatly on course. With wholly predictable handling, it's simply masterful through curves. Body lean is minimal through tight mountain switchbacks. Apart from some noticeable engine sounds while accelerating and some road noise, the Jetta is fairly quiet. It's spacious up front but a tad restricted in terms of elbowroom, and some drivers could hit their right knee on the wide console. The gauges are large and easy to read, and visibility is very good. The seats are beautifully cushioned and appropriately bolstered; they also offer good thigh and back support.

Exterior Color: Blue Silver, Interior Color: Gray
Volkswagen's Passat is one of the smoothest-riding sedans in its league. The suspension is taut, but it absorbs moderate bumps handily with no sense of overreaction. The exceptionally quiet V-6 delivers more than ample acceleration. Automatic-transmission response is crisp and positive. Volkswagen's turbocharged four-cylinder is coarser during hard acceleration and isn't especially powerful at lower speeds; but otherwise, it's as energetic as many V-6s. The Passat steers with moderate effort and excellent precision, but at times it's a trifle slow to respond. It displays minimal body lean in curves. Every element of assembly comes across as A-1. Because Volkswagen has used diesel engines for years in its smaller Jetta, one would expect the Passat diesel to be wholly satisfying; sadly, that's not the case. Performance is acceptable, if tame. You can clearly hear the diesel-engine sound when a window is open. More important, the diesel-engine powertrain in two early Passats stumbled periodically. The Passat can be equipped with either a 170-horsepower, turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder; a 190-hp, 2.8-liter V-6; or a turbo-diesel 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 134 hp and 247 pounds-feet of torque. The turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder can be equipped with either a five-speed-manual transmission or a five-speed Tiptronic automatic that permits manually selected gear changes, but all other engines are available only with the automatic.
